As we prepare to transition our students into the summer months, many of our Wekiva families will continue to be struggling with the financial and emotional impact of COVID-19.
crisis response efforts to COVID-19, Army of Angels was able to provide
over 61,000 meals and 1,000 boxes to families in need which are delivered to
families doorsteps by volunteers. This nonprofit organization was created by
two Winter Park HS teachers to serve their community, but this quickly spread
to supporting all of OCPS during the pandemic.
Many of our
Wekiva Staff stepped up to volunteer throughout the last two months to make
deliveries to our side of town and to make sure our students’ families had
their basic needs met. Our strong volunteer
base combined with the large number of requests submitted by families in the
Apopka/Wekiva Area led to Army of Angels creating a separate branch that will
continue moving forward, even though the crisis response has officially
ended. This will be especially important when school is out for the summer!
